A farming tool known as kama on Okinawa, was originally used to cut rice stalks, and later samurai. The implement is a common weapon for Okinawa farmers and is part of the curriculum for many Shorin-Ryu Karate schools. The art of kama is known as kamajutsu, which typically uses one or two sickles for self-defense. In Seiyo Shorin-Ryu, students can obtain kamajutsu certification as this is a complex art that is part Shorin-Ryu.
